The dogs are close enough to each other to experience positive interactions, but far enough away so they can’t physically interact. Sleepovers can vary in length starting with at least one night in a home. Pack walks are group walking sessions that help encourage socialization, desensitization, leash manners, exercise, and help boost moods. We learn a lot about the dog’s interests and behaviors once they have settled into a home, which we may not see in the shelter setting. Sleepovers allow a dog to destress and get a good night’s sleep in a foster home. This program was such a success, we have extended it to sleepovers and pack walks as well! The primary goals of Pawsitive Adventures are to provide enrichment for the dogs, help us learn more about the dogs in our care, and decrease stress levels. This program allows dog walking volunteers to take dogs staying at the shelter out on an excursion for a few hours to nearby dog-friendly locations (like parks, volunteer homes, and drive-thrus for a pup cup!). Once you have submitted your application, you will be contacted by the Foster Coordinator and a short interview will be arranged. If you are interested in becoming a foster for LHS, the first step is completing our volunteer application. While the animal is in the foster program, LHS will be responsible for all of the animal’s medical treatment (including medications and vaccinations). Lake Humane Society will provide the foster family with the materials needed to foster such as food, bowls, litter, blankets, toys, and other supplies.
